Lady Vikings split games with Coyotes


Grayson College Lady Vikings played two games against the Weatherford Lady Coyotes, winning Game 1 and losing Game 2 in Weatherford on Wednesday, Mar. 1.

Grayson College captured the lead in the first inning to beat Weatherford 5-2 in Game 1. Marcella McKinney grounded out, scoring one run.

Weatherford knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the third inning. An error scored one run for Weatherford.

Grayson College took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Shelby Fleming homered off of Katy Simon, driving in two runs.

Kylie Williams earned the win for Grayson College. She threw seven innings, surrendering two runs, three hits, and striking out five. Simon took the loss for Weatherford. She tossed seven innings, giving up five runs, 11 hits, and striking out two.

Home runs for Grayson College came when Baylee Goolsby homered in the seventh inning and Fleming homered in the fourth inning.

Grayson College collected 11 hits. Goolsby, Morgan Lewis, Samantha Loving, and Fleming each collected multiple hits for Grayson College. Fleming and Goolsby each drove in two runs to lead Grayson College.

Weatherford didn't commit a single error in the field. Madisin Hightower had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.

However, Grayson College couldn't keep up with Weatherford and fell 12-3 in Game 2.

Weatherford took an early lead in the first inning. Marie Perrin homered on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring one run.

Weatherford took the lead for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Morgan Rackel homered off of Tana Davis, driving in one run, Aspen Grines singled off of Davis, driving in one run, Kalina Sato singled, driving in one, Perrin tripled off of Davis, driving in one run, Madisin Hightower singled off of Davis, driving in one run, and Davis uncorked a wild pitch, scoring one run.

Home runs for Weatherford came when Perrin homered in the first inning and Rackel homered in the second inning.

Morgan Lewis, Samantha Loving, Jodie Hill, Marcella McKinney, Clarissa Peters, and Jacye Grimm each collected one hit to lead Grayson College.

Perrin led Weatherford with two hits in three at bats. Weatherford didn't commit a single error in the field. Hightower had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
